What to expect...

Initial Consultations

Initial consultations at Highgrove Osteopathic Clinic take one hour. You will be asked about your main problem, your past medical history, your family medical history and some screening questions to ensure that you are safe for us to treat. If you take any prescribed medications, please bring a list with you.

You may be asked to remove some clothing to ensure our Osteopaths can examine you effectively. Wearing loose clothing or bringing some shorts may help you feel more comfortable if this is something you are concerned about. All our Osteopaths are happy to work with any concerns you might have, and you are more than welcome to bring a chaperone to any of your appointments.

Your general range of motion will be assessed, and some testing will be carried out to help identify the issue you are presenting with.

Should treatment be appropriate for you, this will be discussed and explained, and there is usually some time for treatment within your initial consultation.

Follow up appointments

Follow-up appointments are timed at thirty minutes and allow patients who have been seen in the last eight years to return for further treatment, whether it's for your original presenting complaint or something new. These appointments follow a similar pattern to your first appointment but in a shorter time frame, as your full case history has already been obtained.

Please be aware that if you have been to the clinic in the last 8 years, we should have a file for you, and you can book it as a follow-up appointment.

We may not have your file if you last visited us more than 8 years ago. Our data protection guidelines state that after this time, notes must be destroyed, so be prepared for us to ask you to return to us as a new patient.

The number of treatments required by patients does vary. Everyone's body reacts differently to treatment. We do our best to give you our best estimate so that you can plan accordingly.

Please be aware that Osteopathy is not a ‘cure-all’, and occasionally further investigations may be required, in which case a referral to your GP may be suggested.

All information obtained during the consultations and treatments is held in the strictest confidence.
